I am a 30 year old healthcare worker and first time political candidate. I decided to run because I think more everyday, working class people need to run for and hold office to be able to make decisions that accurately reflect the best interests of the people they serve. I hope my campaign inspires people to pay closer attention to local politics and to run for office themselves.
  • City government should prioritize investment in neighborhoods and communities.
  • Housing is a human right, and Fair and Affordable Housing must be readily available.
  • Democracy requires participation, and City Council meetings need to be more readily accessible and participatory for all citizens.
Personally I am passionate about the creation of Complete Streets and investment in infrastructure that supports all mobility, not just cars. Like many people I picked up cycling as a hobby during the pandemic and have put over 2500 miles on the bike I purchased last fall and this summer did a 150 mile bikepacking trip with my wife. I absolutely love to ride my bike to go out downtown but there are little to no bike lanes and riding in the streets does not always feel safe. The roads in Toledo are mostly outdated and with some modern design choices we could be a much more bike friendly city.
Elected Officials should do their best to make decisions that are in the best interest of the people they serve. They should always be willing to defer to experts and constituents with experience on any given issue when forming their own stances. A good elected official is a public servant that is willing to admit when they were wrong, and learn and grow from their mistakes.
Crew member at a pizza restaurant. I worked there from age 16-19. The restaurant has since closed which is a shame, I miss that cheesebread.
City Council members should amplify the voices of the community members who are all out doing the work of helping their communities every day. Toledo is full of them, folks who put up their own time and money to help clean up neighborhoods, provide kids with fun activities and provide meals for neighbors who need it. But often times these people feel like their work is not being supported by the local government. On City Council we must see and hear these people and make sure that their work is being recognized and supported. These are the people that have solutions on how to fix some of the problems ailing our neighborhoods because they see it up close and personal, we should seek their input rather than thinking we have all the answers.
