My goal is to be a champion for having everyone work to make our planet a better place to live. I moved to Orange County, Florida over ten years ago to pursue a Biomedical degree at the University of Central Florida. I have researched ways I can help Orange County, whether that be as simple as picking up trash, or as complex as measuring water to test the impact they would have on the groundwater aquifer systems. Now I am a science professor at Seminole State College, and use my teaching platform to inform students of not only the ecological issues we face in the world today, but steps they can personally take to help the conservation efforts of the county.
  • Less Politicians, More scientists.
  • Together we can make the world a better place.
  • Unity, not division.
I have always been engaged in politics, voting in every election that I could since I turned 18. I always research individual candidates extensively to see their views, disassociating the political party they may be affiliated with. During the last election, I noticed two of the seats being voted on were the Soil and Water Conservation board. This piqued my interest since I realized I had no idea what the board did nor what goals they were trying to accomplish were. I decided to attend the meetings after learning they were public, and have been attending regularly for over a year. While attending the meetings, I grew frustrated by the lack of quorum that could be reached over many months resulting in work not being done in a timely, consistent manner.
The environment is one of the most important things to worry about, and I feel a lot of people don't even understand the extent that it impacts the lives of not only humans, but every living thing on the planet. I want to use my knowledge to not only make the best choices but expand the knowledge of that to everyone so we can all be apart of the process.
The people I look up to most definitely have to be my parents. They were and are the two most important people in my life, raising me to become the man I am today. They have instilled in me the values I appreciate today such as kindness, openness, and a willingness to do what's necessary for the betterment of all.
I am a big believer in a positive future, and this is why the Star Trek series has always spoken to me, and something I aspire us to evolve into.
You must be accountable to the people who elected you. And that's why one of the main things I want to do is have more people come to the meetings and talk to me about what they think should be done. I don't have all the answers and I'd love to come to the best answer by taking time and talking to people in the community.
I pledge to be at every meeting, and also make sure to speak with the best people and mix that with my knowledge of the subject to recommend the best decisions possible to to others.
Showing up and having the constituents best interests at heart are the most important things I believe for this office. Too many people in the past have just used the board as a stepping stone, and that is not my intent. I want what is best for the people and for the soil and water around us.
The board is in a pretty bad state at the moment. I would like after I leave for it to be something people look up to and they think we're doing a great job.
I remember being in Elementary School when the events of 9/11 happened. I was in the library with just the lady who worked there and she brought a TV out to watch, it was a very harrowing and humbling experience.
My first job out of college was as a science tutor for a private company called The Tutoring Center. I had it for 4 years until I went back to school to obtain my masters.
Right now I am reading the Expanse series and they may be my favorite book series of all time. They show a future that is interesting but still very grounded and human. Less idealistic and more realistic.
One of the biggest struggles in my life was figuring out the best way to communicate effectively to others. I took many classes and practiced over the years and I think I am finally in a place where I am able to convey my ideas to everyone in a respectable fashion.
The Orange County Soil and Water board meets with the public once a month and I want more people to come and share their opinions. Our job is to meet with the county commissioners and guide the, on what to do about decisions that conversion the environment in our county.
Not necessarily. I myself am a first time candidate, and I've never been involved in anything political other than voting every opportunity I have had. I believe I can bring a new and fresh prospective to the board that others could not.
I believe one of the biggest skills you will need here is communication. This is something I have practiced over the years from tutoring to teaching. The fact that I can break down information to be explainable to everyone is one of my skills that I am proud of, and something I think would be great for the board. Also the ability to work with people is huge here because we need to be able to work with the county commissioners to figure out what is best for the environment and community.
