I bring an unique and well-rounded perspective as a former board member, teacher and administrator with the North Kansas City School District. I have lived the NKC experience as a student, parent and taxpayer. These experiences, combined, provide a critical lens for thoughtful and effective decision making. Professionally, I have had the privilege of serving NKC Schools in various capacities. I served in administrative roles, serving as assistant administrator at Winnetonka High School during the 2000-2001 school year before becoming principal of North Kansas City High School, a position I held from 2001 to 2020. I was also an elected member of the Board of Education in 2022 helping to shape district policies and initiatives. Beyond my building leadership roles, I was actively involved with numerous district committees, bond and levy campaigns, and fundraising efforts, viewing them as essential responsibilities in strengthening our schools and supporting student success. I currently serve as a member of the North Kansas City Schools District Foundation Board.
  • I support public education. By investing in our public education system, we invest in the future of our community
  • Teacher recruitment and retention is not about salary alone. The financial landscape is ever-changing, and educators today face increasing challenges that impact their ability to remain in the profession. Beyond pay, we must create an environment that supports work-life balance, professional growth , and overall job satisfaction.
  • As our district's needs grow in scale and complexity, our responsibility is clear: every dollar must drive student success and sustain our schools. We need a transparent, outcomes -driven financial approach that aligns spending with impact. This should include independent audits to ensure alignment with outcomes, sustaining core operations while prioritizing student impact and smart reallocation toward student and teacher-centered resources when needed.
Public policies that ensure all students have access to educational opportunities that to meet their needs..
My first professional job was in the insurance industry before a career change into education.
The primary role of a school board member is to provide governance and oversight for a school district to ensure the effective and efficient operation of public schools. School boards play a critical role in shaping public education. A school board member's responsibility is to represent all members of the community, ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education in a fiscally responsible, ethical and legally sound manner.
