Danielle Johnston was a member of the New Mexico Public Education Commission, representing District 8. She was appointed by Governor Susana Martinez (R) to fill the vacant seat following the November 8, 2016 general election. She resigned on September 27, 2018.[1]

Biography

Johnston worked in education for 35 years, including 27 years in New Mexico public schools as a teacher, principal, and administrator. Following her tenure in public schools, Johnston spent eight years as an administrator in charter schools, including serving as the education superintendent for the Juvenile Justice Division of the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department. Johnston retired in 2016.[2]

Write-in candidate Denise M. Dawson failed to earn enough votes in the primary to advance to the general election on November 8, 2016, for the District 8 seat on the New Mexico Public Education Commission. No other candidates filed to run for the position. Johnston was appointed to the vacant seat by Governor Susana Martinez (R).[2][3] She resigned on September 27, 2018.[1]
