I’m an engineer, a community member, and a parent raising my daughter here in Mountlake Terrace. I’ve lived in the city for over a decade and have seen firsthand how much it has changed and how much potential it still has.

Professionally, I lead teams that solve complex problems by listening, collaborating, and using data to make informed decisions. Those same skills apply to city government, especially as we face growing demands on infrastructure, services, and housing.

I care about this community and want to help shape its future. I’ve been attending council meetings regularly, getting involved, and talking with neighbors about what matters to them. That connection between people and local government is what inspired me to run.
  • I bring a problem-solving mindset to city government. As an engineer, I make decisions by listening, asking the right questions, and using data to guide outcomes. I’ll bring that same thoughtful, collaborative approach to the City Council to help Mountlake Terrace grow in a way that supports residents now and in the future.
  • Mountlake Terrace is in a good position today, but we need to plan ahead to stay that way. I want to help protect our financial future by prioritizing essential services, upgrading infrastructure, and making sure every budget decision supports long-term stability. We can’t afford to ignore the pressures that come with growth.
  • I believe in strengthening the connection between local government and the community. I’ve seen how simply talking about getting involved has encouraged others to do the same. If elected, I’ll work to make government more accessible and inclusive so more residents feel heard and represented.
I’m passionate about long-term financial planning, infrastructure, and civic engagement. I want to make sure Mountlake Terrace stays financially strong and prepared for the future, especially as our population grows. That means investing in foundational infrastructure like sidewalks, sewer, and stormwater systems. I’m also committed to improving how the city connects with residents. When more people feel informed and involved, our community becomes stronger and our decisions more representative.
Measure What Matters by John Doerr had a big impact on how I think about leadership and accountability. It focuses on using clear goals and measurable outcomes to drive progress, which is something I believe in both at work and in public service. I think city government should operate with the same kind of clarity and discipline, making decisions based on what will deliver the most value to the community.
An elected official should be a good listener, open-minded, and focused on serving the community rather than personal interests. They should be willing to ask hard questions, look at the facts, and make decisions that are fair and forward-thinking. At the local level especially, people want leaders who show up, engage respectfully, and follow through on what they say.
I’m a good listener and an empathetic person who genuinely cares about the people around me. I take the time to understand different perspectives and value conversations that lead to better decisions. My background as an engineer helps me approach problems with thoughtfulness and structure, but it’s the human side of the work that motivates me most. I want to help create a city where people feel heard, supported, and proud to live. I believe that mindset would serve me well in this role.
A councilmember’s core responsibilities are to represent the community, help set the city’s long-term direction, and make decisions that reflect residents’ needs and values. That means overseeing the city budget, approving policies and land use decisions, and working with staff to ensure services run effectively. It is also about showing up and building trust through transparency and consistent engagement. Councilmembers do not just vote. They help shape how the city grows and how responsive it is to the people who live here.
Many people do not realize how much influence the city council has over everyday quality-of-life issues. Councilmembers help shape zoning rules, guide development, and prioritize capital projects like roads, sidewalks, and parks. These decisions have long-term impacts on affordability, safety, and how the city grows.
Previous experience in government can be helpful, but it is not required to be effective in this role. What matters most is the ability to listen, think critically, and work well with others to solve problems. My background as an engineer has taught me how to navigate complex challenges, build consensus, and make thoughtful, data-informed decisions. Local government benefits from having people with a range of experiences and perspectives, especially those who are directly engaged in the community they serve.
Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for this role. Councilmembers need to listen to residents and find common ground with one another. Critical thinking, long-term planning, and a willingness to engage with complex issues are also important. No one comes into this office knowing everything, but being able to ask good questions, understand tradeoffs, and make informed decisions goes a long way.
Financial transparency and accountability are essential to building trust between the city and its residents. Mountlake Terrace already posts its budgets and financial reports online, which is an important foundation. I would like to build on that by making financial decisions easier to understand and more clearly tied to long-term priorities. Residents should be able to see not just where the money goes, but how those choices support the future of the city. Clear communication and responsible planning are key to earning and keeping public trust.
