I am running to represent New York State Senate District 29 because New Yorkers deserve action and results not slogans.

I have the experience, drive and proven track record to take bold, decisive, results-oriented action to bring about the change we need right now.

My parents grew up poor and in a country plagued by a murder rate that is four times higher than that of the US. But my parents believed in better and in the opportunity that a good education could afford my brothers and me. Education would become my passport to a better life. And it is that belief that led me to the US and to Harvard University where I earned a Master’s of Public Policy on a full scholarship. And then to a career focused on transforming education.

I am an experienced manager who has worked in business, government, and the nonprofit sector. For the past decade, I have helped educators create great school options for low-income children. I am the Founding Board Chair of Brooklyn RISE Charter; a public K-5 school serving 150 students in Sunset Park. I am also the co-founder of the New York State Charter Parent Council, a network of more than 350 families advocating for their schools across the state. And finally, I was recently elected to serve as Vice-President of the District 2 Community Education Council.

  • EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO FUTURE OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR CHILDREN
  • PUBLIC SAFETY IS NOT A CONCEPT, BUT A REALITY THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS IMMEDIATELY
  • SMALL BUSINESSES ARE THE BACKBONE OF OUR COMMUNITY AND NEED REAL ECONOMIC RECOVERY
Education was my ticket to a better life and I've dedicated my career to school choice. New York spends more than $40K per student with poor results to show for this investment. I will ensure that all children in our district have access to a high-quality education and that families have access to school choice.

As a mother, I'm also very concerned about the safety of our communities. I grew up in a violent society and know how crime damages families, local businesses and the very fabric of our communities. A fear of public transportation or walking our streets is not acceptable. I will work to ensure we have safety and justice; and a restored rule of law.

Finally, we need a real economic recovery in New York City that does not rely on stimulus from the federal government. I will work to make our district friendly to businesses so we can generate jobs and income for our communities.
No matter the experience, age or background, it's critical for an elected official to be ethical, transparent and fully committed to serving the public.
I have deep experience and expertise in education policy. I've advocated for change in policies that are harmful to children and will continue to do this. I'm tenacious and hard working; and committed to what is best for the residents of New York City.
The first historical event that I remember having a deep understanding of what was happening was the Iraq war. I was a young adult and remember understanding the impact of the conflict. It was an emotional experience that I remember sharing with my father.

I believe New York is facing a crisis of education. We need address the critical learning gaps that have always existed and yet were worsened by the pandemic.

Leaving kids without instruction for so long has been devastating and will require an enormous amount of work to reverse.

New York spends more than $40K per student with poor results to show for this investment. I will ensure that all children in our district have access to a high-quality education and that families have access to school choice.

Not necessarily, I think it is important to have experience in leadership positions and experience working with issues that are relevant to the role. In fact, to ensure we have a diversity of views and the type of new ideas that move us forward it is beneficial to have candidates with experience outside of politics.
As we have seen this year, it's critical that an independent commission takes control of the redistricting process to avoid gerrymandering by either party. The confusion that is caused by a partisan process is bad for democracy.
