Hello, I'm Darla Fink and I am a candidate for Reno City Council Ward 5. I was born, raised and educated in the Reno/Sparks area. I have a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Nevada-Reno. I have worked in real estate, casinos, and for a contractor to the Dept. of Labor for Job Corps. During my 20+ years at Job Corps I was the Counseling Manager, the Student Services Director, the Director of Finance and Administration and the Deputy Director. I have a wealth of education and experience in how government works from both the public sector view and the private contractor's view. I have seen the city grow from a modest municipality into part of a metropolitan area. The growing pains Reno is experiencing are part and parcel with expansion. Ward 5's unmet needs are: critical infrastructure investment, adequate police and fire protection and transparent representation from a council person who is not beholden to the interests of casinos or developers. I pledge to commit my time to research each project and proposal for its merits and with only Ward 5's interests in mind, unlike the incumbent. My Master's Degree in Public Administration coupled with professional finance experience is critical in resolving the eminent budget disruption now facing the City of Reno. I promise to represent you and only your interests on the Reno City Council. Please leave your comments and input on my Facebook, Twitter or Instagram @ThinkFink2020.
  • I have the professional experience and formal education to represent the people of Reno ward 5 in a fair unbiased manner.
  • Growth in Reno needs to happen with deference to the needs of existing residents first.
  • Critical infrastructure needs to be maintained and upgraded to keep pace with the needs of the community. Police and fire funding and staffing levels need to be maintained at a level that will keep our families safe.
Implementation of public policy utilizing existing resources is my forte. Many politicians will call for change with no plan or ability to put action into place. I am a person who knows how to get things done in a timely manner. I am acutely aware that public policy does not exist in a vacuum. When politicians change policy it often has wide reaching effects causing damage to the little guy in the wake. I have the critical thinking skills and the creativity to anticipate problems and find solutions for the issues facing the public. My experience in Finance and Administration is crucial for the challenges about to face the City of Reno. It gives me the requisite perspective necessary to help the city navigate effectively through the difficult times ahead. My opponent has no such education or experience. She was put into office via the resources of the casino industry, by whom she was formerly employed. I have no personal agenda, just what is best for the constituents in Ward 5. My plan is to listen to the people and represent their needs.
