My name is Darnell Tagaloa, I am not a politician. I am a dedicated and devoted father of three, family man, and community activist who understands politics and legislation, following a path I prayed for that has led me to this election. I am deeply rooted in the 1st District of Lexington, KY, from growing up in the Eastend while going to school in the Westend to living on the North end, I not only understand the challenges our district has historically faced but I live it like my heart of my sleeve. Throughout life and my professional careers, I've obtained a wide collection of skills and connections I plan to exploit for the benefit of my community, city, and state. As Councilman, my only goal is to properly represent each community of my district while being a strong voice who advocates for the positive change our communities desperately need throughout the city in multiple aspects. I am to unify our cultures, find common ground between differences, and improve the quality of our lives for generations to come.
  • I am not a politician. Born and raised in the first district of Lexington, KY, I am a committed community activist who understands politics and legislation, as well as the job I am signing up for and the specific and deeply rooted challenges my community faces.
  • Although I lack a political resume in comparison to the other candidates, I would not be running for office if I was not confident in properly filling the position. I have many of the connections the other candidates have downtown, and many more connections outside of our mutual connections that add value beyond measurement that I plan to exploit. My approach to conquering the challenges we face as a district is more proactive than reactive with a focus on building genuine and trustworthy bridges.
  • Win or lose, my campaign to strengthen communities in multiple ways will continue. There's a lot of hard work that needs to be done in order to see the conditions of our broken communities improve. I can't do it alone. Your vote would be nice, but your support would be a blessing to myself, yourself, and many others in need throughout the 1st District of Lexington, KY, and beyond.
I am equally personally passionate about human rights, public safety, and higher education.
I believe being a city councilmember is unique and important because it is a local bridge between government and everyday citizens, providing a connection that allows the two to work together. Being able to relate and understand people from all walks of life and backgrounds is an imperative quality to have in any political position, but especially the one I'm running for.
Characteristics that are most important to me for an elected official involve having good communication and relationship skills, being analytical, and trustworthy. Principles that are most important to me consist of integrity, transparency, and dedication. These characteristics and principes, in addition to others, represents a strong leader people can depend on.
I believe core responsibilities for an elected city council member include educating, engaging, and empowering their districts through information, involvement, and advancement.
I am laying the groundwork for a legacy of passion, dedication, and commitment for my kids, family, friends, and anyone I touch in the process and thereafter. A legacy of faith, love, and community.
More people should be aware of the power of influence, both internally and externally. Internally, city councilmembers should be able to influence the communities of the districts constructively. Externally, city councilmembers should seek to influence support and resources beyond their districts to strengthen people in general.
I do believe it's beneficial for city councilmembers to have previous experience in government or politics, any previous experience is beneficial for any career, but I don't believe it is necessary. Essentially, city councilmembers have an obligation to keep their districts informed and aware of public concerns while being the voice for their communities in times of speaking up for the majority.
I believe in full financial transparency in government. Government accountability is a must, in addition to personal accountability.
