Darrel D. Gibson, Jr. (BJ) a native of Scotland County. I have given of myself my entire life in service to the betterment of the community. My service has ranged from Pastor/Servant Leader of Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church, School Board Member of Scotland County Schools and County Commissioner of Scotland County. In all areas of service, I aim to be the voice of those who often go unheard in the community to ensure that all work if for ALL people. I am presently serving on the board of commissioners, and previously served 10 years as a school board member. Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church has been the congregation I've served for 16 years. My commitment is to working to establish now practices and policies that assure a strong foundation for generations to come. I am a graduate of Fayetteville Technical Community College. I am married to Tatiana Gibson and together we share four children; Triniti, Darrel III. , Taelyn and Teaghan.
  • Strong Community As your Senator, I will fight to ensure that more funds are given to support the grassroots work of organizations right here in Scotland, Hoke and Robeson counties that are working to implement needed reforms. I will work with the community to keep our neighborhoods and streets safe. True change can only happen by those who are apart of the community. I endeavor to ensure we support youth mentoring, reentry councils and other organizations committed to transforming our communities.
  • Strong Education Adequately funding education, ensuring racial inequity in North Carolina is put to bed are main concerns of our educational system. Paying our teachers and other school employees what they deserve, expanding free Pre-K, and fully restoring our Teaching Fellows Program are vital to the sustainability of public education in North Carolina. We are seeing continuous max exits of educators is depressing. We must increase what we pay those who educated, transport, and feed our children. Pre-K is important to allow us to give children a strong foundation in preparing them for graduation. We must expand free Pre-K to educate more children so that we are properly preparing them to be competitive for college and jobs. Growing our own
  • Strong Healthcare So many across our state and especially rural communities like those who make up District 24 lack health care. Our rural communities need greater access to health care. We must continue to fight for Medicaid expansion and fund preventable health measures. As a member of the local board of health, I recognize our rural communities deal with high rates of terminal illnesses and as a local pastor, I 've watched so many suffer in silence and die in pain because they didn't have access to health care. The strains of the pandemic have also shown the need for us to support our small community hospitals to ensure their success in serving our communities.

I admire many, I would highlight in this moment, our former police chief, Robert Malloy. He is and always has been a very fair and effective leaders who has held fast to his personal convictions while allowing himself to respect the opinions and beliefs of others.
The most memorable historical event for me would have been the tragedy of 9/11. I was thirteen years old
While I worked various jobs in high school, my first official employment as apart of my career is that of Pastor/Servant Leader of Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church, Wagram, NC. I have been serving in this role for 16 years.
I think the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature is at the forefront remembering our commitment is to the betterment of policy for the citizens. While Governors require legislative support to accomplish their policy objectives and plans for the state, it's important that we all work together for the common good of those who elected us to serve.
I think common respect of people rather than party . The stigma connected to our selective parties has caused great divide and it's causing the work of state legislature and local communities to be ineffective.
I think the benefit would be less division of party however I think the drawback is the fact that there would be a majaor lack of diversity.
I don't think its necessary but beneficial because they understand process and procedure which allows the work to get done quicker.
I think relationships are the driving force of effective work and is the only way to move forward in policymaking and development.
I favor a process that is completely inclusive of elected officials and citizens
I would desire to serve on the health and human service committee and education/high education committee.
I think legislature should work with the governor in this regard
I believe in all relationships compromising is the way to reach a place of effectiveness, especially in policymaking.
