Opposition

Three of the seven seats on the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District Board of Education were up for general election on November 3, 2015. The election was held by district.[4][5] Trustee Area 1 incumbent Diane Creasey, Trustee Area 2 incumbent Debra Gramespacher and Trustee Area 3 incumbent Jon Hill were up for re-election.[6]

Creasey did not file to run for re-election in Trustee Area 1. Wendy Root Askew ran unopposed and won that seat by default. In Trustee Area 2, Gramespacher also ran unopposed and won the seat by default. The Trustee Area 3 race featured incumbent Hill and challenger Darrick Jory. Hill won re-election to the board.[1][2]

Campaign themes

Jory issued the following statement regarding his bid for office:

My purpose for running is to help the all the students and faculty of MPUSD. I believe our school district has an education system that promotes a one-size-fits-all solution for our children. The fact of the matter is were not all ready nor want a university education, in fact most of our graduates do not attend a university after high school. With that being true, we need to INCREASE CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION, IMPROVE TEACHER RETENTION, and REDUCE THE DISTRICT DEFICIT.

I'm not running against my opponent, I'm running for our community.[9]
