|- Access to high quality and affordable healthcare. I am a rural family medicine physician and work in a public critical access hospital in Lea County, NM. I’ve shown up everyday for New Mexicans in our fight against COVID 19. The pandemic has revealed the systemic inequities in our health system. I see how hard it is to access quality primary and specialty care, affordable prescription drugs, and health insurance – especially in our rural communities. Expanding access to care and health insurance coverage will be one of my top priorities.
- Expanding the middle class. I grew up in a working class immigrant family in New Mexico. I know what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck, rely on public health insurance and free/reduced lunch at school. Jobs that pay a living wage, offer health and retirement benefits and time off to raise a family and care for your loved ones is an essential component of living a flourishing life in New Mexico.
- Access to high quality public education. I was a public high school math teacher before I entered medicine. I know what it takes to provide high quality public education, especially in our communities of greatest need. Safe, equitable, funded and effective public schools are the bedrock of any community.
Expanding the middle class.
