This is my first time running for political office. I served 35 years in the U.S. Army and I retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. I served as an Enlisted Solider and an Officer. I work for Honeywell International for 25 years in the Oil/Gas Division and I currently practice Law in Texas. I am the only Military Veteran, the only Combat Veteran and the only Attorney running in the Republican Primary for County Judge. I am running to offer Fort Bend County residents a better choice. I believe my military leadership expertise coupled with my legal background make me the best Candidate. This election is not only about education but leadership. The County employs experts in the required fields but lacks leadership to effectively/efficiently guide the organization. The County has been headed in the wrong direction for some time and if not course corrected the County is headed for financial disaster. The County is $2 billion dollars in debt and has added $1 billion in the last 5 years. The County is also abusing its Eminent Domain powers. Eminent Domain is a power that should be used sparingly and only when there is no other choice. My top priorities for the County are: Bring integrity and transparency back to the County; Stop the budget deficits and “right size” the budget; Stop casually using eminent domain; review all infrastructure plans; review all Homeland Security Plans; address the Veterans Service’s deficiencies; address the concerns of animal rights groups.
  • How to serve one million residents: Balance the public’s ability to provide necessary services with private development through resource optimization. Review the strategic comprehensive land use plans for meeting the increased demand on water and utilities. Review performance standards to protect health, safety, and the environment. Review requirements for zoning changes. Review long term bond requirements.
  • The County's budgeting priorities: Immediately stop the budget deficits; identify and eliminate unnecessary expenditures; eliminate the County’s debt as quickly as practicable; ensure the County has the right number of personnel on staff with reductions or transfers as necessary; continue investing in infrastructure (maximize use of State/Federal dollars); identify new sources of revenue.
  • The County's 2 most pressing issues: (1) Lack of integrity and transparency (2) Fiscal responsibility. The first is addressed by setting the example. No "back room" deals that leave the residents wondering who is getting rich. Ensure that all County Employees follow the Code of Ethics. The 2d one is harder because I'm not the only vote. The goals would be to immediately stop budget deficits; identify and eliminate unnecessary expenditures; and eliminate the County’s debt as quickly as practicable. I cannot get tax reductions as long as the County is in debt. No tax increases. Identify opportunities for new revenue. Add industry to the tax base. Maximize use of State/Federal dollars. "Right Size" the County workforce.
Fiscal responsibility, integrity, government accountability to the people.
