I am a long-time resident of Northwest Ohio who believes very much in the Democratic principles upon which this country was founded.

I have been an advocate for working people for decades as a Union activist and as a Business Agent. Government provides countless needed services to its citizens. No one should assume office in order to grandstand or further their "brand."

I believe the truth is found through many voices.
  • We need elected officials who will listen to and respond to the will of the voters.
  • We need elected officials who respect the rule of law
  • We need to elect officials who will stay out of the personal and medical decisions made by Ohio families.
The environment, workers' rights, affordable health care, affordable college tuition, reproductive health care, public school funding.
Former Speaker of the House Tip O'Neal. When I read his autobiography, I learned that he thought government exists to help people. To solve problems. To work across the aisles for the common good. To see to it that fairness and compassion for needy people is a desirable trait.
Honesty. Tolerance for other viewpoints. A willingness to compromise. An appreciation for, and respect for The Rule of Law. Country before party.
My whole professional life has been one of interacting with people, listening to their voices, articulating a viewpoint, building consensus.
To listen to and respond to the voters. To avoid taking extremist views. To respect the office you assume and never use it for personal gain. To do your homework and show up to vote.
One of having had a career that made those people's lives with whom I come in contact with better for it; by advocating for and acting on their behalf.
The assassination of President John F. Kennedy in November 1963.
I was nine years old.
These Truths

A history of the United States
by Jill Lapore

This is the history book where I read a more accurate and inclusive accounting of the contributions made by those persons whose voices aren't usually heard.
One of working together whenever possible but provide a sort of "checks and balances" as needed.
Retaining and attracting businesses. That will only happen with an investment in infrastructure, a well-educated workforce, strong public schools and a moderate political climate.
Yes. Having previous experience in government can only help as you work with a variety of people from various backgrounds; often with conflicting points of view.
Yes. It's important to note that a member is only one of many voices in the chamber. One's agenda can only be addressed through groups composed of other House members.
Building relationships, finding common ground, working together is how the legislative process is supposed to work.
I got a phone call today from my doctor's office.

"I have some bad news, and some worse news."
"Well tell me the bad news first."
"You only have 24 hours to live."
"Oh no, what the worse news?"

"We've been trying to get hold of you since yesterday."
No. Define "emergency." That could easily be abused and used for nefarious purposes. Could an election result be voided due to an emergency?
It's been said that politics is the art of compromise. In fact, our political system is designed to work best through compromise. It is necessary for the common good.
A total restriction on the waste products of farm animals flowing into Lake Erie. A total restriction on farm fertilizer run-off into Lake Erie.
Commerce and Labor, Criminal Justice, Energy and Natural Resources, Infrastructure.
