Campaign themes

2016

Braun's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE

  • If I am elected by you, I will make it a priority to repeal these absurd and discriminatory statutes. My goal will be to make voting as simple, efficient, and honest as humanly possible. I believe that we must expand the days for in-person voting to the Saturday and Sunday before the election, and open hundreds of voting locations throughout the county! I believe that voters should be able to go to their polling location on election day when the voters’ interest and involvement in the issues is the highest, register right then and then vote! Certainly it is time to consider whether to take the responsibility for running partisan elections out of the hands of partisan elected officials.

MINIMUM WAGE

  • One of the very first bills I will introduce if elected to the legislature will be the immediate increase in the minimum wage to $10.00 per hour, and thereafter an increase of $1.00 per hour each year thereafter until the total minimum wage is $15.00 per hour.

EDUCATION

  • At the end of the 19th century America realized that a high school diploma was the minimum requirement for a well-educated participant in our democracy and economic system. Now in the globally competitive economy of the 21st century at least two years of advanced education beyond the high school diploma is required. Therefore, I will propose a bill to completely eliminate student tuition fees in our community college system. Community colleges should be funded by the State and the counties, just as the State and the individual school districts fund the primary and secondary educational system.[1]
