Dave Carney is president and chief executive officer of Norway Hill Associates, Inc., a New Hampshire-based public relations and communications firm. Carney founded Norway Hill in 1996.[1] Prior to founding Norway Hill, Carney was a campaign and staff aide in intergovernmental affairs to former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.). Carney has been called a "legend among Republican operatives" by Time Magazine reporter Michael Kramer.[2]
Career
Dave Carney worked on John Sununu's 1980 Republican primary campaign for the United States Senate for New Hampshire. Sununu lost to eventual winner Warren Rudman (R). Carney worked on Sununu's successful campaign for Governor of New Hampshire in 1982.[3] From 1982 to 1989, he was deputy chief of staff to Gov. Sununu.[1]
From 1989 to 1992, Carney was special assistant to President George H.W. Bush, and he served in 1992 as national field director and director of political affairs for the Bush/Quayle 1992 re-election campaign.[1] He counseled Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) to a victory in a U.S. Senate race over incumbent U.S. Sen. Bob Kruger (D) in 1993.[4] From 1993 to 1995, he was deputy executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee under U.S. Sen. Phil Gramm (R-Texas). From 1995 to 1996, he worked as an intergovernmental affairs aide to United States Senate majority leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.). He was a campaign consultant on Dole's 1996 presidential campaign against President Bill Clinton.[2][5] Carney founded Norway Hill Associates, Inc., his New Hampshire-based public relations and communications firm, in 1996.[1]
In 1998, Dave Carney consulted on Rick Perry's (R) campaign for Lieutenant Governor of Texas. He was a top campaign consultant for Perry's subsequent winning campaigns in 2002, 2006 and 2010 for Governor of Texas.[6] He was a campaign consultant to Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and, later, to Rick Perry (R-Texas) during the 2012 Republican presidential primary season.[6] He was a campaign consultant for Greg Abbott's (R-Texas) victorious gubernatorial campaign in 2014.[7] In 2015, he was named as a consultant to Commitments Kept NH, a political action committee tied to U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte's (R-N.H.) 2016 re-election campaign.[3]
