Dave Cooley is founder of and principal at Cooley Public Strategies, a communications consulting firm based in Nashville, Tennessee and Washington, D.C. Previously, Cooley served under Phil Bredesen first as his chief of staff, while Bredesen was mayor of Nashville and then as the deputy governor when Bredesen was governor of Tennessee.
Career
Dave Cooley began his career in 1991 as campaign manager for former Nashville mayor, Phil Bredesen. After Bredesen's victory, Cooley served as the newly elected mayor's chief of staff.[1] In 1993, Cooley joined McNeely Pigott and Fox, a public relations firm in Nashville. Cooley was a principal with the firm.[2] In 2001, Cooley managed Bredesen's successful gubernatorial campaign.[2]
Bredesen appointed Cooley in 2003 to the position of Tennessee state deputy governor.[3][4]
Cooley started his own consulting firm, Cooley Public Strategies, in 2009.[3] The firm specializes in strategic management, building public support and government affairs.[5]
In 2011, Cooley helped fund the inauguration, a sponsored event, of then incoming Gov. Bill Haslam.[6]
In 2013, Cooley was named one of the top 500 influencers by Campaigns and Elections magazine, which highlighted his ability in having "fostered relationships on both sides of the aisle" in Tennessee.[7]
