Dave Garrison
Dave Garrison was a 2012 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House representing the 25th Congressional District of Texas.[1]
Campaign themes
2012
Garrison's campaign website listed the following issues:[2]
- Abolishing Earmarks
- Excerpt: "I oppose the use of earmarks. In the current system there is no accountability for taxpayer money used under earmarks, which corrupt the political process and prevent the best use of budgeted funds. Money should only be spent on projects that make sense and bring in dollars to our economy."
- Border Security
- Excerpt: "Texas is on the front lines of a war. Our border has become a crossing point for drug smugglers, terrorists and human trafficking. Illegal immigration has become a problem that is straining our social system and programs. Our hospitals, schools and local government are paying the cost for the education and health care of illegal immigrants."
- Education Reform
- Excerpt: "Education is the responsibility of state and local officials, not the federal government. I support closing the Department of Education and returning that responsibility to the states where it belongs."
- Energy
- Excerpt: "The United States must develop a comprehensive energy strategy that will bring down prices for electricity and gasoline and stop our need to send billions of dollars overseas to foreign countries for our oil needs."
- Entitlement Reform
- Excerpt: "Over the years we have promised hundreds of millions of Americans that they would have Social Security and healthcare when they retire. I support reforming both the Medicare and Social Security systems so that we can protect our senior citizens and ensure that we have the money to continue to provide for our country’s most vulnerable citizens."
- Family Values
- Excerpt: Today traditional families and values are under attack. Hard work, strong families and respect for life are ideas that are rapidly losing their significance in our society. We have forgotten the importance of individual responsibility and holding people accountable for their actions.""
