Dave Heaster
Dave Heaster was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 5th Congressional District of Wisconsin. He lost to incumbent Jim Sensenbrenner.[1]
Biography
Heaster earned his bachelor's in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.[2]
Issues
Heaster listed some key campaign issues on his website: "I think that it's wrong to exploit other people and their environments to make our products cheaper, and I have a simple approach that would make this exploitation go away. Today - when a company wants to make products in the U.S. - they have to follow certain rules (OSHA regulations, Minimum Wage, Environmental regulations...). Why are we OK with throwing all of these basic standards out the window when we ship jobs overseas? So the simple approach is this: Apply the above rules to any company who wants to SELL products in the U.S. This way, no matter where the products are made, there would still need to be our OSHA regulations, our Minimum Wage and our Environment regulations. This would make it cheaper to make products here, because there is no advantage to sending jobs overseas, and the cost of shipping items from China to the U.S. would add to the cost of production / Logistics.
We should strive to get to a point where our National Debt is no more than twice of what the government brings in. PERIOD.
I do not believe that we ever need to go to war unless our borders, or the borders of our key allies, are attacked. I feel that we should end the era of America having to be the world police. I like the idea of leading the rest of the world to the idea of Democracy by our example - not by cramming it down people's throats.
I would never vote for a resolution that put any Americans, even one, on the line for a cause, a resource or an ideology. Cheap oil is not worth even one life. Sure, it would be great if all countries were free like the US, but I would not put American lives on the line for this dream. Freedom and liberty are the right answer to how people should live. Just like we Americans, and more recently the Egyptians, all peoples will fight and win their own battles of freedom. Thinking that we can manipulate this process outside of the natural course of things is a futile pursuit - and when it becomes deadly to our men and women, it's criminal."[3]
