Thomas ran in the 2012 election for Kansas State Senate District 25. Thomas was defeated by Michael O'Donnell in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]

Thomas' opponents in the November 2 general election were Democratic incumbent Geraldine Flaharty and Republican candidate James Clendenin. According to official results, Flaharty defeated Clendenin and Thomas with 1,461 votes; Clendenin received 1,308 votes and Thomas received 132.[3]
