In the notice of intention to circulate a recall petition, Judith Valadao wrote, "Council member Dave Turner is not able to represent the best interests of the community."[1]
Arguments for recall
Grievances against Turner included the resignation of the city's police chief over alleged disrespect and a vote to turn an historic shuttered hotel into an office that serves the homeless and mentally ill.[1]

Upon learning of the recall, Turner said that the petition contained lies and was undemocratic. "It undermines democracy, in a way. If you threaten a recall over a vote, where does it end?" he said.[1]
