Campaign themes

2016

Weis' campaign website listed the following themes for 2016:

Leadership:
This is the cornerstone of my campaign. Leadership is the key, and I am prepared to bring my experience as a Veteran, and a retired Army Officer, to help put the educational needs for our children ahead of everything else and to restore Madison County Schools’ excellence with surrounding districts. Our district is lagging behind, having lost that competitive edge, due to a lack of forward thinking and cooperation between superintendent and community. I will improve upon this by:

  • Using a proven track-record as a parent and volunteer in our schools and an active voice for the community to the school board over the past nine years, to build relationships both on and off the board in order to promote our schools, programs and activities.
  • Working to ensure the Board of Education is making decisions that benefit our district and the entire school system as a whole.
  • Finding common ground and work with the Superintendent, to develop and implement plans and policies that will advance all aspects of education: from expanding technology in the classrooms; improving security and safety in our schools; upgrading facilities district-wide; providing resources and continuing training to educators, staff and aides-necessary to ensure our students remain competitive in all areas of learning and keep Madison County Schools on par with all other districts in surrounding communities.

Fiscal Responsibility:
Today’s economy has brought huge challenges to our school system and we must ensure that limited funds, grants and yearly revenue sources are used wisely to fund those projects and programs: benefiting our district and Madison County Schools. I will work to:

  • Ensure a complete and thorough evaluation of requirements before committing funds for capital expenditures; including community input.
  • Prioritize system-wide, those projects that are needed now, to enhance the learning process for our students and to help the district regain some of that competitive edge.

Transparency and Community:
A school board is the most basic level of government. It impacts each and every one of us directly, and I believe its Board Members should be the most accessible and accountable of all elected officials. I want to do this by:

  • Rebuilding the trust factor that has been lost between the community and the board of education. Regaining a level of confidence from our communities that the school board will work to improve every aspect of our schools.
  • Social Media is a tool that has not been used to its potential. So much can be communicated via social media and I will seek to find ways to keep District 4 as informed as possible in this manner.
  • Establishing a committee of leaders comprised of members of the community to meet regularly to discuss issues and concerns relating to our schools, provided feedback to me and to find ways to make our schools and the overall educational process that much better.
