Dave Weldon (Republican Party) ran for election to the Florida House of Representatives to represent District 32. He lost in the Republican primary on August 20, 2024.

Donald Trump (R) announced on November 22, 2024, that he had selected Weldon as his nominee for Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in his second presidential term. In a statement, Trump said, "Dave will prioritize Transparency, Competence, and High Standards at CDC. Dave will proudly restore the CDC to its true purpose, and will work to end the Chronic Disease Epidemic, and Make America Healthy Again!"[1]
