David A. Rivera
David Rivera (Democratic Party) is a member of the Buffalo Common Council in New York, representing Niagara District. He assumed office in 2008. His current term ends on December 31, 2027.
Rivera (Democratic Party, Working Families Party) ran for re-election to the Buffalo Common Council to represent Niagara District in New York. He won in the general election on November 7, 2023.
Biography
Born in Buffalo, Rivera graduated from Grover Cleveland High School. He has worked with the Buffalo Police Department since 1982, where he has served as a patrol officer, a detective in the Narcotics Division, a confidential aide to the Mayor's Office (under former Mayor James D. Griffin), a detective sergeant in the Robbery Unit and a detective sergeant in the Sex Offense/Domestic Violence Unit. Most recently, he has worked as a detective sergeant in the General Investigative Unit.[1]

Rivera is the son of Juan Rivera and Maria Diaz, who were born in Puerto Rico and came to New York in the early 1950s. He has four siblings: Charles, Marilyn, Emlyn and John, and he has one son of his own with his wife, Esther Casillas.[1]
