Biography

David Alvarez was born in San Diego, California. Alvarez's career experience includes owning Causa Consulting. He has volunteered with the boards of the Kim Center for Gender Equity, Camarada, the San Diego Coffee Training Institute, and Circulate San Diego.[1][2]

The city of San Diego, California held elections for city council on November 4, 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 6, 2014. Because one candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the primary election for District 2, its general election was called off. Incumbent David Alvarez defeated Lincoln Pickard.[3][4]

Mayor

As the top two candidates, Alvarez and Faulconer advanced to the general election.[5] Alvarez was defeated by Kevin Faulconer in the runoff election on February 11, 2014.[6]

Although all municipal elections in San Diego are conducted on a nonpartisan basis, Alvarez was endorsed in his bid for mayor by the San Diego County Democratic Party.[7]

Runoff election

Alvarez and Felipe Hueso, being the top two candidates in the primary election, advanced to the runoff election scheduled for November 2, 2010.[8] Alvarez defeated Felipe Hueso in the November 2, 2010 runoff election to win his first term as San Diego District 8 Councilmember.[9]
