David B. Ackerman (Florida)
David B. Ackerman was a county judge of the Escambia County Court of Florida.[1] Ackerman announced that he would retire from the court effective May 28, 2010 in order to collect nearly $1.3 million in a lump-sum retirement payment, and that he intends to return to the bench in 2011.[2][3]
Supreme Court recommends replacement
As of July 2010, the Florida Supreme Court has recommended that Governor Crist appoint a new judge to replace Ackerman. When the judge took early retirement, the Governor had the abillity to appoint a temporary replacement, until Ackerman returned to work in February 2011. Crist was not going to replace Ackerman in the meantime, though the Judicial Nomination Commission accepted applications for his replacement. Now, at the urging of the Florida Supreme Court, the governor will appoint a judge to fill Ackerman's seat for a two-year term.[4]
