My name is David Boatwright, I'm married with 2 kids, a Christian, USMC Veteran and I build outdoor screen rooms for a living. I'm 25 years old and I have lived in the Wiregrass area for the majority of my life. I decided to run for office because I believe it's time for my generation to answer the call and serve the people of Alabama. I believe that elected officials are servants to the public and during my 4 years in the Marine Corps, I learned what it means to both serve and lead. I joined the Marines in the fall of 2015 and received an honorable discharge in the summer of 2019. I returned home to Dothan and started working in construction, repairing homes damaged by hurricane Michael. Not long after returning home, the pandemic began. after seeing the events of 2020 and the 2020 election, I knew it was time for change. I joined the libertarian party and announced my run for office in February of 2022. As a Libertarian, I promise to uphold and defend the rights and freedoms of the people of Alabama and to serve the people of District 28.
  • During my 4 years in the United States Marine Corps, I learned what it means to serve and to lead.
  • As a father, I am very concerned with the future of the state of Alabama and I want to help make it a better place for my children to grow up.
  • Libertarians believe in freedom. I believe that you know what is best for your life and that elected officials should stay out of the lives of the citizens of Alabama. I will always stand up for the lives, rights and freedoms of the citizens of Alabama.
During my time in office, there are three things I want to tackle.

1. Ending the grocery and income tax in Alabama. The people of Alabama are represented too little and taxed too much. I believe that it is a crime to tax people on essential items such as food and the wages they have worked hard for.

2. Implementation of a state lottery system. With the elimination of the grocery and income tax, the state will still needs to generate revenue. A lottery system is a great way for the state to generate income without forcing citizens to pay the tax. Lottery is a 100% consensual tax, unlike the other taxes we pay for that are enforced through the threat of violence. Many people in Alabama play the lottery and have to travel out of the state to do so. We could keep that money in Alabama and put it to good use.

3. Decriminalization of Cannabis. I believe that its time to end the failed war on cannabis in Alabama. We have had false propaganda dictate policy in this state for too long and its time to correct that. I will wok to decriminalize cannabis and make it legal for citizens to grow, buy and consume cannabis in the state of Alabama.

I'm young, full of energy, tactful, honest, respectful, confident, empathetic, common sense thinker, a veteran and I truly give a damn.
One of outreach and empathy. Life is hard and I want to do all I can to help people out.
From a young age, I have always been doing some kind of work. whether that was working with my dad building houses or working with friends and family. My first "real" job was the USMC and I served 4 years.
The Outsiders. Its a great story about outcast kids trying to figure everything out.
Rising energy cost, over-taxation, a failing education system, cannabis laws and the threat of global war.
Absolutely. As a Libertarian, when I become senator, I will need to have other legislators on my side if I ever want to get anything done. No reason to make enemies when I need friends.
