David R. Brinkley is a former Republican member of the Maryland State Senate, representing District 4 from 2003 to 2015.

Brinkley served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1995 to 2003. He served two tenures as State Senate Minority Leader, as well as a stint as State Senate Minority Whip.

Biography

Brinkley earned his B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1981. His professional experience includes working as an estate and financial planner.

Elections for the Maryland State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 25, 2014. Dan Rupli was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Incumbent David Brinkley was defeated by Michael Hough in the Republican primary. Hough defeated Rupli in the general election.[1][2][3]

Brinkley ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Maryland's 6th District. Brinkley sought the nomination on the Republican ticket, but he was defeated by incumbent Roscoe Bartlett in the Republican primary on April 3, 2012. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run was January 11, 2012.[4]

Brinkley defeated Democratic candidate Sara Trescott by a margin of 31,522 to 11,733 in the November 2 general election.[5]

In the September 14 primary election, Brinkley defeated opponent Kathryn Freed by a margin of 9,705 to 2,585.[6]
