- Veterans: I support maintaining and strengthening veterans' benefits. Veterans are entitled to no less than full medical coverage by a doctor they trust available near the place where they live. Veterans deserve outstanding mental health care and supportive services. Most importantly, our men and women in uniform deserve a Congress that takes its constitutional duties seriously. Only Congress has the power to declare war according to our Constitution, but elected representative of both parties have been ignoring this responsibility.
- Accountable Government Starts with Campaign Finance Reform: I believe that government must accessible and accountable to the People. In Florida this must start with reforms of Florida Election Laws to end Voter Suppression tactics. Political boundaries must be drawn by a transparent, non-partisan process that prevents Gerrymandering. Voters should pick their politicians, not the other way around. Primary elections should be open to all voters; party preference should be selected when the voter asks for a ballot.
- Protecting our Envrionment: Northeast Florida has been blessed with some of the greatest natural treasures in the world, but these God-given gifts are threatened by man-made policies founded in indifference, ignorance and greed. Non-point source pollution is destroying the quality of surface waters and ground waters throughout Florida. Urban stormwater, agricultural runoff, septic tanks and atmospheric deposition discharge nutrients and toxic chemicals into the pristine springs of North Florida, the St. Johns River, the sinkhole lakes of Central Florida, the Atlantic and Gulf Coast esturaries, Lakes Toho, Kissimmee and Okechobee, and the incomparable River of Grass we call the Everglades. Just as scientists warned of nutrient pollution 40-years ago, scientists today are warning that it is a scientific certainty that, if unabated, greenhouse gas pollution will destabilize Earth's Climate.
- Affordable Health Care: President Obama tried to do the right thing, but he gave up too soon. Obama-care is a step in the right direction, but there's far too much give-away to drug compnies and insurance companies. We need a true national health care system. It is possible and we can afford it. Country after inustrialized country has adopted a universal health care system for far less money than we spend right now. Why do British, Japanese and Canadian citizens get to enjoy free health care but not Americans who actually spend more than all three for health care? It's because too many corporate interests are making too much money to allow a true change in health care policy. I will fight for health care as a right.
- Education: We must provide teachers with funding and tools so our children will learn to compete and prosper in the global economy. College education must be affordable and debt-free. For-profit private colleges must be cut-off from federal subsidies.
