Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Alabama

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

On August 29, 2023, Cole was arrested and charged with voter fraud for allegedly voting at multiple or unauthorized locations.[3] Cole posted $2,500 bail the same day and was released from custody.[3] Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall (R) confirmed to local news outlets that his office was prosecuting the case.[4]

Cole resigned from the Alabama House of Representatives on August 31, 2023, and filed court documents that showed he intended to plead guilty to the charges.[5] In a statement, Cole's attorney said "Dr. Cole admits and takes full responsibility for the mistakes he made in the political process."[5]
