Campaign themes
2014
McKenzie's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Education
- Excerpt: "One of David’s main priorities is to restore Mike Vereb and Governor Corbett’s $1b cuts in education. These funding cuts have led to an overreliance by school districts on local property taxes, which are rising far too quickly in Montgomery County."
Property Taxes
- Excerpt: "In Pennsylvania, most Property Tax revenue is earmarked for education purposes, so when Republicans cut $1.1 billion from state education funding, local governments were forced to compensate by increasing Property Taxes. David wants to restore these investments through proceeds from a 5% severance fee on drilling in the Marcellus shale. This will enable us to achieve high quality in our schools while providing property tax relief to hard working Pennsylvanians."
Natural Resources
- Excerpt: "New technology has allowed for more natural gas to be extracted out of the ground, which has led to a natural gas boom here. David believes that since these natural resources belong to all Pennsylvanians, this wealth should be used to benefit all Pennsylvanians; he therefore supports Tom Wolf’s proposal to “enact a 5% extraction tax on natural gas and use this revenue to strategically invest in Pennsylvania’s schools, infrastructure, and the development of clean energy alternatives."
Women’s Rights
- Excerpt: "David is a staunch supporter of a woman’s right to choose. He plans to fight against the invasive procedures Republicans have implemented and continue to support. He will fight against the forced ultrasound bill, which he sees as a government intrusion of privacy and waste of resources."
