Political career
Utah Treasurer (2015-2021)
On October 16, 2015, Richard Ellis announced that he would step down as treasurer, effective November 1, 2015. According to the Utah Constitution, the governor of Utah is permitted to appoint a new treasurer to serve out the remainder of the outgoing treasurer's term. The Utah Republican Party sent the governor a list of three candidates for the position. From that list, Gov. Herbert selected Damschen.[4][3]
Upon appointing Damschen to the post, Gov. Herbert said, "David epitomizes our fiscal conservative approach to government. I have full confidence that his vision, knowledge and experience will continue to lead the Utah team to maintain our strong fiscal health and Triple-A Bond rating."[3]
Damschen won election to a full, four-year term on November 8, 2016. He resigned on April 30, 2021.[1]
