Dave is an activist who is willing to fight for what he believes in, which is why he is running for this position. His goal is to unite our community and make it a safer, better place for all. Dave believes creating shelter security in Sacramento is the immediate way to uplift our City‘s disenfranchised while simultaneously supporting education, mental health services, small businesses and lowering crime rates. He believes the City of Sacramento should enter the housing market as a participant in order to create transitional and affordable housing immediately.
  • Shelter Security Is Key To Our Cities Future.
  • Safety At Educational Institutions Is Mandatory For The Next Generation.
  • Small Businesses Should A Priority In Sacramento.
I want to create shelter security immediately through common sense investments. The only way to insure that our collective funds are being properly spent is through a greater level of transparency and accountability. I believe that refunding mental health initiatives and creating a right to housing within the city will immediately increase property values, lower crime rates and create a brighter future for every citizen.
Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a dream” speech is a continuous inspiration to me.
Transparency and accountability are necessarily along with a backbone to fight for shared values of the community represented.
I am not afraid to stand on a righteous indignation. If I know that my conclusion is researched, and on the right side of reinforcing, human rights rather than degrading them, I’m willing to make a stand. This lack of fear has gotten me into trouble in the past, but will serve my community well.
To be brave enough to do the right thing in-spite of who it might offend is critical. Without this ability we will achieve nothing.
No matter what I will leave the district in better condition than when I found it. I want to create a legacy of opportunity for the next generation. Among these opportunities, I believe that gainful employment, the promise of owning a home, and safe, educational facilities are foundational.
I graduated high school in 2001. Shortly thereafter the 9/11 tragedy occurred. This shaped the way I viewed the world for a decade after the event. I was 18 years old at the time and I’ll never forget the way I felt in that moment. It was as if my future had been undermined and stolen. I will fight to make sure that no youth feels the same in my district no matter what happens on a world scale.
I enjoy the book, the Count of Montecristo, because I’ve always been a fan of an underdog and a comeback story. I see myself in this book.
If I could be any fictional character, I guess I would want to be Batman, so I can clean up the streets and be used by my community for the betterment of all.
As a musician, I write music regularly for my son and other artists. My son Brayden has a song called playground. That is the last song that was stuck in my head.
When I was eight years old, my mother was taken to prison and sentenced to more than 20 years shortly thereafter, I found myself in the foster and group home system. Knowing what the statistics are with regards to foster and group home out, I found myself resigned at a young age to accepting the math. Later in life, I found education and struggled to find the self-worth to invest in myself, the time and finances necessary to achieve higher education. I was however, successful, and I’m living proof that our system of government does work for those willing to pursue upward mobility through education and vocational training.
As a single father, I’m prone to dad jokes. When my son tells me he is hungry or sleepy, I usually say hello hungry or sleepy. He usually groans at these jokes, rather than laughing, but then encourages me later to tell him some dad jokes, which is the favorite part of my day.
Many local district 6 individuals and small businesses have agreed to support my efforts to win the seat on city council.
