My name is Andrew Engell and I’m running for the State Legislature. I live near Colville with my wife and four children. I have been deeply involved in my community throughout my life including many years as a volunteer firefighter EMT, chairman of the Addy food banks, president of Colville Rotary, Precinct Committee Officer for the Stevens County Republicans, and multiple other organizations. As a committed Christian, the values of Faith, Family, and Freedom embody who I am and what I stand for. For the past 7 years I’ve worked for Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers and I have enjoyed working with thousands of people across 12 counties as her Deputy District Director. It’s been an incredible honor to work for the people and should I be elected I will make the citizens of the 7th district the center of my work in Olympia.
  • Like most people, I want to live in a community where I and my family feel safe, where there are good jobs, opportunities to pursue dreams, where the community is supportive of neighbors in need, and where our children can get a good education. I am running for the state legislature because I’ve seen these good things declining and I care about the people around me and believe that I have the right experience to effectively bring people together and find solutions to the issues we face.
  • Community service has defined my life for more than 20 years. I’ve held leadership positions in 17 community organizations and served as president for 6 of them. In these organizations A few of the positions I’ve held include: President of Colville Rotary Club, Chairman of the Addy Food Bank, Policy Development Committee Chairman for Stevens County Farm Bureau, President of the Corbett Creek Water and Homeowners Association, Precinct Committee, Officer for the Stevens County Republicans, Board member for the Chewelah Farmers Market, and a longtime Volunteer Firefighter EMT for the Addy Fire Department.
  • I am honored to be endorsed by many who I’ve worked with and who know and trust me to effectively serve you. These endorsements include: Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers Senator Shelly Short Representative Joel Kretz 6 County Republican parties and the 7th District Republican committee Senator Mark Schoesler Senator Mike Padden Representative Leonard Christian Representative Mary Dye Representative Jenny Graham Fmr. 7th District Representative Steve Fuhrman, 4 County Sheriffs WACOPS 7 current and 6 former county commissioners As well as current and former mayors, city council members, city administrators, veterans, farmers, ranchers, and small business owners I have the right experience to serve you in Olympia!
A few of the many important issues I see and intend to work on are:

Supporting law enforcement and enhancing public safety
Supporting our veterans and ensuring they get the benefits they have earned
Pushing back against out of control taxes and regulations
Ensuring parent’s rights to direct their children’s education
Protecting the 2nd amendment
Making it easier to manage our forests

Addressing our severe lack of housing by streamlining permitting and cutting back on the unnecessary construction regulation
I have great admiration for Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers. She has been able to stay in elected office for 30 years without losing her character, being corrupted by politics, or compromising her values. She stands strong on the conservative principles the people of eastern Washington hold while being respectful and listening to all types of people. I believe our country needs more leaders like her who will stand for the majority and respect the minority in their district.
The role of a legislator is to work with the other legislators to make new laws, change existing laws, enact budgets for the state, and provide agency oversight and support citizens who are having issues with government agencies through the casework process.
I will use my position to fight back against efforts by urban legislators pushing agendas that erode our rural values, make it more expensive and complicated to live here, and harm our rural way of life. I will tirelessly fight for individuals, businesses, and local governments struggling with state agencies through casework and legislation.
I believe in the constitution and the separation of powers. The governor should have a good relationship with the legislature and he (or she) must follow the laws the legislature enacts. The administrative state under the governor has amassed far too much power and should be reigned in.
Yes, relationships are critical for effectively representing the people of the district and finding common ground with other legislators. I am committed to building relationships with as many other legislators as I can as that is the only way to be effective.
The legislature should oversee emergency powers. We should not allow the governor to have as much power indefinitely as Inslee did during the COVID pandemic when he used his power in a way that harmed rural communities.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Washington

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
