Espinosa is a lifelong resident of Grand Prairie and graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 2006. He earned an associate of arts degree from Mountain View Community College in 2008 and a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Texas at Arlington.[1][2]

The general election on May 9, 2015, in the Grand Prairie Independent School District featured two seats up for election. In the District 5 race, incumbent Burke Hall faced challenger David Espinosa.
