David M. Gersten was a judge on the Florida Third District Court of Appeal. He was appointed to the court in 1989. He was retained by voters in 1990, 1996, 2002, and 2008. He retired from the court in 2011.[1] He was elected to the position of Chief Judge by the judges of the Court on July 1, 2007 and served in this position until June 30, 2009.[2]
Education
David Gersten was born in Miami Beach, Florida. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in 1973 and his law degree in 1975. He has been a professor and faculty member of the Florida College of Advanced Judicial Studies, the National Judicial College at Reno, and the St. Thomas University School of Law. He is married and has four children.[2]
Career
David Gersten began his legal career in 1975 as a private practice attorney. In 1980, he was elected to the Miami-Dade County Court. In 1982, he was elected as a circuit judge of the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida. He was re-elected in 1988, and held this position until his appointment to the Court of Appeal the following year.[2]
