I, David Gibson, believe in leading by example. I will not ask anyone to do something that I will not do myself. I plan to lead Nevada into a sustainable and thriving future. I will create thousands of jobs by leading a transition to 100% renewable energy. Education is the cornerstone of democracy. I support education at every level. I will promote preschool programs, and providing support for every student to graduate high school and achieve as high a level of education as they desire. Local business is the cornerstone of our state economy. I support local sourcing and promote buying from Nevada-owned businesses. I support local nonprofit organizations, and value their significant contribution to our economy. I pledge to donate 20% of my income to Nevada nonprofits every month, and will promote community volunteerism across the state. I support a living wage, and endorse raising the state minimum wage to $15/hour to support our families and citizens. Corporations are NOT people. I support an amendment to the US Constitution declaring that "We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling and other related cases, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights." Health care is a human right, not a privilege. I support a state-wide, single-payer healthcare system that provides the care needed for all our citizens, regardless of their income level, without an insurance company profiting in the middle. I support the protection and conservation of our public lands. Nevada has a diverse and wonderful array of landscapes and species, all of which are valuable for their inherent beauty today and for all future generations. As governor, I will issue a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) for oil and gas in the state. I also support labeling or banning Genetically Modified Organisms, and promote sustainable, locally grown food instead. I believe that providing treatment for drug addicts is more cost-effective and beneficial than tying up our justice system with drug offenses. This has been highly successful in Portugal for over a decade. No one is renowned for mediocrity. Nevada will be the international leader in renewable energy deployment, sustainable communities, and addressing climate change. Nevada will be the first state to reach 100% renewable energy. I will not settle for less. [3] |
