David Goodman (b. February 13, 1967) was the director of the Ohio Department of Commerce and was responsible for overseeing the Ohio Department of Industrial Compliance and Labor. He was appointed to that position on January 10, 2011, by Governor John Kasich (R). Goodman served until 2013, when he became the director of the Ohio Development Services Agency. He was appointed by Governor John Kasich (R) on March 18, 2013.

Before 2011, Goodman served in both the Ohio State Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives.

Biography

Goodman was a member of the Bexley City Council from 1995 to 1998. He served in the Ohio State House of Representatives from 1998 to 2001. He joined the Ohio State Senate in 2001 and served in that position until 2011, winning elections in 2002 and 2006. Goodman, who represented the 3rd District, was unable to run for re-election in 2010 because of Ohio's term limits.

Goodman worked as a federal judicial law clerk for Judge George C. Smith, SD Ohio, from 1992 to 1993. He then worked as a legal counsel/statewide county coordinator for Voinovich for Governor in 1994. From 1993 to 1995, he was a private practice attorney. He was then assistant attorney general for Ohio from 1995 to 1998. He has worked as counsel for Taft, Stetlinius, and Hollister LLP since 1999.

Education

Goodman earned his B.A. in political science from Miami University in 1989. He went on to receive his J.D. from Case Western Reserve School of Law in 1992.

Political career

Ohio Superintendent of Industrial Compliance and Labor (2011-2013)

Goodman was the current Director of the Ohio Department of Commerce, and was responsible for overseeing the Ohio Superintendent of Industrial Compliance and Labor. He was first appointed on January 10, 2011, by Governor John Kasich.

Ohio State Senate (2001-2011)

Goodman joined the Ohio State Senate in 2001 and served in that position until 2011, winning elections in 2002 and 2006. Goodman, who represented the 3rd District, was unable to run for re-election in 2010 because of Ohio's term limits.
