David Holden is a life-long Democrat running to represent progressive, people-first values in South-West Florida's 19th Congressional District. As the Democratic nominee in 2018, he secured more votes than any other candidate in the District over the past 20 years. David believes the SWFL deserves grassroots leadership and true accountability to the people. CD 19 is one of only two open US House seats in the critical swing state of Florida. David has been an active Democrat working to elect other Democrats in states around the country--including when he served as Chair of the Democratic Party in White Plains, New York. His advocacy extends to his time as the Deputy Director of a California non-profit, whose mission it is to improve the lives of those experiencing symptoms of mental illness. He believes 2020 is a time to lead with compassion instead of bitterness; expertise instead of one man's whim; and centering the lived experiences of the working families over corporate special interests.
  • Speaking truth to power: restoring our Nation's faith in democracy, social institutions, and the legitimacy of experts
  • Serve local interests, not corporate ones: SWFL has been represented by millionaires and billionaires beholden to their Party for too long. It's time to take the power back to the people.
  • Defeat the Donald: a strong Democratic candidate in SWFL helps tap the forgotten voters in "deep red" districts like ours which helps block Trump's path to victory in Florida. Without Florida, he loses.
Healthcare: our nation's current fight with the pandemic has made it clear that our system is broken. Healthcare is a human right, not a privilege. Employer based healthcare only works when people have jobs, which is clearly not a guarantee. Single payer is the future.

Housing Affordability: too many people in SWFL and around the country are being priced out of their life-long neighborhoods by developers keen on bolstering their bottom line. Federal Representatives must include robust investment in housing, local infrastructure, and stronger over-sight in how those dollars are spent.

Medicare & Social Security: these programs must not simply be protected, they must be expanded. I will never tolerate raising the retirement age or stripping Americans of their hard-earned benefits.

Environment: in SWFL, corporate polluters have managed to make our beautiful coastal district into a public health hazard that threatens our very way of life. We can stop this by holding polluters accountable, strengthening our EPA and Clean Water Act, and finally acting on the science of climate change.

Human Rights: women, LGBTQIA+, minorities, etc, have had to fight for too long to preserve their hard-fought rights. Civil rights should be inalienable, and America must stop using vulnerable communities as bargaining chips.
Representative John Lewis. He has led from conviction and with absolute integrity his entire life. He is a person of searing moral vision tempered by deep compassion. He sets an example I can only hope to emulate.
