Gorman ran in the 2012 election for Rhode Island State Senate District 33. He was defeated by Leonidas P. Raptakis in the Democratic primary on September 11. Incumbent Glenford Shibley ran unopposed in the Republican primary.[1][2]

Noteworthy events
In July 2012, Gorman admitted that his landscape company owed back taxes. Of the issue, he stated, "I don't dispute the fact that my business owes taxes to the town of Coventry. What's in question is the amount that is owed. My attorneys and my accountant are working to determine what that amount is. Once that amount has been determined, I will absolutely do what's right and pay the amount owed."[3]
