|- El Paso has the lowest median household income in the state of Texas, the second-highest poverty rate (right behind Houston, Travis Co.). Our city collect the MOST sales tax in the state, and yet we pay the HIGHEST Property Taxes! Something is wrong with this formula. The city is selling citizens homes at a rate of 10-15 a month for failure to pay property taxes.
- The Texas legislature has passed bills that require 3rd party candidates to pay "filing fees" which are essentially an unconstitutional Poll Tax. These fees go into the general fund of the Secretary of State and are used to pay for the Democrat and Republican Primaries. We are paying for our competitor's party elections. LP Texas currently has pending litigation in opposition to these fees. I am the only candidate that refused to pay the fee and remained on the ballot in my county.
- The powers and responsibilities of the County Tax Assessor-Collector vary throughout Texas. In El Paso County, the office should be, more accurately, called the County Tax Collector. They have no control over assessments, that responsibility falls to a board appointed by a district judge. To be honest, the El Paso Tax Assessor-Collector has no power to influence or effect citizens lives in any way. It is a waste of time and money (taxpayer and candidates) to even have this on the ballot. This position should be appointed as it is at the city level.
