David Mattax was a Texas Commissioner of Insurance. He was first appointed to the position by Gov. Rick Perry effective January 13, 2015.[1] On April 13, 2017, Mattax passed away after a battle with cancer.[2]

Mattax served as deputy attorney general for defense litigation prior to his appointment as insurance commissioner. He previously served as director of defense litigation and financial litigation division chief at the Texas Attorney General's Office.[1]
