I am a proud husband, and father of 5 adult children. I have spent my professional career as a mechanical engineer in industrial manufacturing for the past 25 years. My wife and I recently made the choice to move to Northwest Arkansas. This place has held a special in my heart since I started vacationing here as a young boy in the 80's. For 40 years I have visited nearly every summer. When I was able to decide where to spend my time after my children left home there was no other choice. I have always been interested in politics, and seeing what was happening in NWA I could no longer sit on the sidelines. I have thrown myself into this race with the specific task of listening to ALL the people of this district, hearing their concerns, and using the problem solving skills of a practicing engineer to come up with the best solution.
  • Public education is the cornerstone of a functioning society. Every child in Arkansas deserves the best education possible.
  • "The Natural State," is not just a slogan. We must preserve the environment that makes Arkansas great, and NWA the gem of the Ozarks.
  • Three rules I live by. Live and let live. I am my brother's keeper. Leave it better than you found it.
Education, Conservation, Local Economic Development
Arnold Schwarzenegger. He worked very hard to get to where he is, but he still knows that he did not get to where he is by himself. He has said on multiple occasions that no one get anywhere without the help of others. We are all on this together and he knows it.
Independent thinking. Do not fall into the trap of polling. If what you think is right goes against polling, then you need to educate your constituents as to why you think that way. If your party presses you to tow the line you need the fortitude to say why you won't.
Honesty, intelligence, and the ability to change my mind when presented with a compelling arguement.
Leave it better than I found it.
I was 11 and gathered around the TV in the cafeteria of our grade school with every other student and all of our faculty to watch the Space Shuttle Challenger take off.
The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. His storytelling and ability to keep you engaged over 14 books.
Ironman. Any mechanical engineer that tells you differently is wrong.
The legislature represents the people of the state. The governor represents the state to the rest of America. As governor they should be helping the legislator understand how policies they make in the name of the people will position the state on the national scene. Is a piece of legislation good for a portion of the state but will effect a "big picture" plan of the state as a whole in a negative way? If so, then a compromise must be met.
First and foremost, education. Beyond that, transitioning into a player in the green energy sector is an amazing opportunity that must be tendered with care and concern for our natural resources.
Absolutely! Nothing is accomplished without relationships. No one gets to where they are alone. Empathy requires a bond with others. Whether on "your side" or not.
I am focused on the current race. I do not have aspirations outside of Arkansas. If I can effect change as a Representative I may look to the State Senate, but I feel the most impactful change is done at a local level.
In one of my very first meetings I was told of a conversation a citizen had with the incumbent representative. They were pleading a case against a piece of legislation and asking the rep to really consider the negative effects. The response they received was along the lines of, this legislation is going to pass whether I vote for it or not, so I am going to vote for it. To vote for something just to be on the winning side or to tow the party line is not something I EVER want to be accused of.
Yes, as long as both sides come to the table with facts.
