Primary: He was successful in the Republican primary on March 4, 2014, receiving 73.9 percent of the vote. He competed against Earnest Pechacek.
General: He won without opposition in the general election on November 4, 2014.

Nicklaus ran unopposed in the Republican primary race for the Palo Pinto County Court. He defeated Mike A. Smiddy in the general election, winning 58.14 percent of the vote.[3][4]
