Incumbent Donald Payne Jr. (D) defeated David Pinckney (R), Aaron Walter Fraser (New Beginning's), and Joanne Miller (Women of Power) in the general election on November 8, 2016. No candidate faced a primary opponent in June. Payne Jr. won re-election in the November 8 election.[1][2][3]

Elections for the New Jersey General Assembly took place in 2015. A primary election was held on June 2, 2015. The general election took place on November 3, 2015. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 30, 2015.[4] Since the general assembly uses multi-member districts, the top two candidates from each party in the primaries advanced to the general election. Incumbent Ralph Caputo and incumbent Cleopatra Tucker were bracketed together and were unopposed in the Democratic primary. Darnel Henry and David Pinckney were bracketed together and were unopposed in the Republican primary. Caputo and Tucker defeated Henry and Pinckney in the general election.[5][6][7][8][9]

Pinckney was a candidate for District 28 of the New Jersey General Assembly. He was defeated in the November 8 general election. Pinckney replaced Sajda Barlas on the general election ballot. He was opposed by Carol Humphreys (R), incumbent Ralph Caputo (D), and incumbent Cleopatra Tucker (D) in the November 8 general election.[10]
