Campaign themes

2016

Pope's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Government

  • Some form of government is required. A smaller, less intrusive government on both the state and the federal level are preferable. If we shrink government and relieve individuals and businesses of the burden of redundant, useless and unnecessary taxes and regulations, we will free everybody to achieve.

Taxes

  • Taxes are the price we pay for the services government provides. I am fundamentally opposed to taxes being levied through income taxes. An income tax system concentrates too much power in the hands of the elected officials. Through an income tax, the temptation for the government is to reward and punish behavior. It is not within the role of government to do anything except treat each citizen equally. A system of sales taxes and user fees is much less likely to be abused.

Medicaid Expansion

  • I am FOR Medicaid expansion in Wyoming - if the legislature can agree on a method of funding the $13 million - $27 million match without sacrificing state jobs.

The Second Amendment

  • The second amendment is an integral part of the US Constitution. It grants us the right to bear arms and defend ourselves. I will continue to promote access to firearms for law-abiding citizens and work to protect our rights under the second amendment.[1]
