Campaign themes

Sager's campaign website lists several main issues:

  • Ethics Reform: "David Sager believes in the law, good government and its ability to work for everyone. On a local level, he has been responsible for the restructuring and updating of ethics codes in Sullivan County Government. In Albany, he will doggedly pursue the comprehensive ethics reform that is so desperately needed."

Sager on the Issues[1]
  • Gas Drilling: "David Sager has been at the vanguard of the natural gas drilling issue since it first came to light in 2008. He has been outspoken on the side of caution, and has questioned gas industry representatives, NYDEC representatives, and others about their lack of interest in ensuring that the industrialization that comes with Hydraulic Fracturing (aka hydro-fracking) will not compromise our infrastructure, our environment, or our communities. David is willing to ask the most difficult questions not only about the environment and drinking water, but also about home rule and the right for towns to have a say in their destiny (including site plan review, infrastructure and quality of life)."
  • Economic Development: "David Sager was an advocate for forward-thinking regional growth. He believes we should encourage growth in and around our cities, towns and villages, where we can modernize the infrastructure. To support our town residents and encourage economic growth, he will help recruit developers who will revitalize our cities and towns by building affordable housing, and ushering in a sustainable transportation system that will provide access to local workplaces, arts and entertainment, and shopping."
  • Agriculture: "Living in rural Sullivan County between several working farms in an agricultural district, I know first-hand the plight of the American Farmer. I would like to apologize to our farmers and their families for the failure of our state and federal leaders to implement policies that effectively help support and protect farmers."
  • Property Tax Reform: "Many people are only willing to talk about property tax reform as it relates to education, but David Sager wants to talk about it in two different ways. He wants to fight to make significant changes in the way education is paid for through property taxes."
  • Education: "As global economic competition increases, education is paramount in providing our future generations with the proper tools for success. From changing our foreign language choices to incorporating personal finance into the curriculum, it’s high time for a new discussion concerning education and the future of our children."
  • Flood Mitigation/NYC Watershed: "David Sager has experienced flooding first-hand, and understands the need for comprehensive flood mitigation efforts in the region. He will work aggressively with the New York Sate Department of Environmental Conservation to provide effective, lasting and environmentally sensitive flood relief to local residents."
  • Equality: "The rights of citizens to enjoy personal privacy and exercise their constitutional rights free from discrimination of any type, whether it be based upon age, color, creed, national origin, gender or sexual orientation is basic to every human being’s right to secure happiness for themselves and those most dear to them."
