David Urban is a lobbyist and political consultant. As of April 2020, Urban served as the president of American Continental Group, a bipartisan lobbying firm founded in 1994.[1][2] Urban has also appeared on CNN as a political commentator and is a member of the advisory committee for the 2020 re-election campaign of President Donald Trump.[2]

During the 2016 presidential election, Urban headed the Donald Trump (R) campaign's efforts in Pennsylvania.[3] Urban was included on The Hill's list of top lobbyists in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.[4][5][6][7][8]

Career

Urban attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating with a B.S. in organizational leadership in 1986. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army for five years and was deployed in Operation Desert Storm. After his time in the Army concluded, Urban attended Temple University School of Law and the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from both programs in 1994, receiving a J.D. and an MPA in political science and government.[9]

Following his graduation, Urban joined the Philadelphia office of law firm Ballard Spahr LLP. Urban's legal work involved structuring of public bonds for clients including state and local governments as well as private businesses. In 1997, Urban joined the office of Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) as Specter's chief of staff. He served alongside Specter until 2002, when he joined American Continental Group as a partner.[9]

In 2016, Urban joined the presidential campaign of Donald Trump (R). Urban led the Trump campaign's efforts in Pennsylvania, which Trump carried in the November general election.[3] Urban also represented the campaign during preparations for the Republican National Convention, managing negotiations amongst delegates as well as logistical arrangements surrounding VIP appearances.[10]
