David Wright is a former member and Chairman of the South Carolina Public Service Commission. Wright was first appointed to the commission on March 3, 2004. He was elected vice chairman in July of 2010, and chairman in July 2012. His term was set to expire on June 30, 2014,[1] but he chose to retire on May 31, 2013.[2]

A 1973 graduate of Irmo High School, Wright graduated from Clemson University in 1977 with a degree in political science. Wright also attained licenses to operate as an auctioneer and real estate agent. An entrepreneur, Wright founded several businesses and worked in retail, consulting, and professional services.

Public Service Commission (2004-2013)

Wright was first appointed to the commission on March 3, 2004, was elected vice chairman in July of 2010, and was elected chairman in July 2012. His term would have expired on June 30, 2014,[1] but he resigned early, retiring on May 31, 2013, stating, “I’m still young enough to do something else. I’m looking for a challenge.”[2]
