In 2014, I was elected to serve as a Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge. and in 2011, I was elected to serve as a franklin County Municipal Court Judge. Prior to serving as a Judge, I operate my own private practice legal office for 20 years representing thousands of individuals, companies and organizations in civil and criminal litigations throughout central Ohio. I am admitted to practice before the United State Supreme Court and licensed to practice law in Ohio, California (inactive), Florida and Washington D.C. I have participated in over 150 jury trials as a Judge, Prosecutor and defense counsel. I have tried 5 death penalty trials to verdict. I am "High Recommended" by the Columbus Bar Association's Judicial Screening Committee and the Central Ohio Association for Justice. I am endorsed by the Cols. Firefighters, Labor Organizations, Teachers, Stonewall Democrats, Adelante Democrats, and Full Support of Baptist Ministerial Alliance of Columbus and Vicinity. I am the preferred candidate by the Columbus Lawyers 83%-17%.
  • To treat every litigant who appears before me with equality, dignity and respect. I strive to be fair and impartial and run my /court efficiently. I believe that a Judge is one of the most important positions in our society, and I under stand that being a Judge carries tremendous responsibilities. Members of the Judiciary has a unique place in our society as we pass judgment on the conduct of everyone. with one stroke of the pen, a Judge can change a person's life. Judge entrusted with these responsibilities, should be of the highest moral character, possess proper judicial and be fair and impartial. I believe that I have demonstrated all of those throughout my 34 years of legal practice as Judge and in private practice.
  • Being a Judge provides me a unique opportunity to educate the public about the judicial branch of government. I often have teachers and students observe my court proceeding to gain first hand view of the bench. I regularly teach legal and nonlegal topics at legal seminars and schools throughout Franklin County.
  • Honesty, fairness impartiality
While I recognize that systemic racism and gender bias exists in our society, I am working with the Ohio Judicial College addressing unconscious bias and how to minimize the effect of implicit bias.
My father. He instilled in me a sense of hard work, fairness, justice and compassion. I grew up watching him practice psychiatry and the dedication he brought to his practice. He strove to assist others through some of their darkest moments, helped families overcome tremendous hurdles and dedicated
his career to assisting those in need. I have attempted to employ those skills serving the citizens Franklin County as a Common Pleas Court Judge.
Highest moral character, proper judicial temperament, fairness, impartiality and honesty
Any John Grishman book
During Law School, I became fascinated with decision s written by a judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit by the name of Learned Hand. While I was intrigued due to his very unique name, I quickly became a fan of his decisions as they were more similar to legal literature as to normal judicial decisions. Judge Hand thoroughly believed in judicial restraint, he was a defender of the procedural provisions of the Constitution and he was an avid supporter of free speech. While he was never a Supreme Court Justice, Judge Hand taught me that a judge can make a significant difference at any level of the judiciary.
The highest rating of "Highly Recommended" in 2011, 2014 and 2020
I am seeking a second term as a Common Pleas Court Judge to continue to provide the citizens of Franklin County with my diverse real world, judicial and legal experience. I believe that commitment to public service is a noble endeavor.
Not now. I am focused on serving the citizens of Franklin County as a common Pleas Court Judge.
