Three of the five seats on the Daviess County Public Schools school board were up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. In District 3, C. Todd Anderson defeated incumbent Dianne Burns Mackey. In District 4, incumbent Frank Riney III ran unopposed and won re-election to his seat.[1] Incumbent Tom Purcell filed to run for re-election in District 5 but withdrew from the race before the election; his name still appeared on the ballot. Newcomer Dale Stewart won the race as a write-in candidate.[2]

The Daviess County Board of Education consists of five members elected to four-year terms. Each member is elected to a specific geographic division. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016.

School board candidates had to file with their county elections department during the candidate filing period, which ended on August 9, 2016. To vote in the 2016 general election, voters had to register by October 11, 2016.[3]

Daviess County Public Schools is located in Daviess County, Ky.

Daviess County Public Schools is located in northwestern Kentucky in Daviess County. The county seat is Owensboro. Daviess County was home to 99,259 residents in 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[9] The district was the 10th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 11,560 students.[10]

Demographics

Daviess County underperformed compared to Kentucky as a whole in terms of higher education achievement from 2010 to 2014. The United States Census Bureau found that 19.9 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 21.8 percent of state residents. The median household income for the county was $45,760, compared to $43,342 for the state. The percentage of people below poverty level for the county was 15 percent, while it was 18.5 percent for the state as a whole.[9]
